My Story

I am Dilip Patel, a local shopkeeper, borough councillor and proud community champion.

As a great lover of the wild outdoors, it has been a life-long ambition of mine to climb the 17,598ft to reach Mount Everest's Base Camp 1 and I have therefore decided to undertake this challenge which will be completely self funded.

However, never one to waste an opportunity for publicity, I thought this challenge would provide the perfect pretext to raise money for one of our fantastic local charities: First Step.

First Step works with over a 100 families of babies and young children offering support, information, and encouragement to enable these very young children with special needs and/or disabilities to maximise their individual potential.

Those with special needs and/or disabilities face mountain-size challenges everyday of their lives. I am sure that I can face just half a dozen days in the mountains to help make their struggles a little easier.
