My Story
First Step supports families of babies and young children with special needs and/or disabilities, who often arrive at First Step in crisis and not knowing which way to turn. Established over 33 years ago, First Step provides a specialist, safe, secure and non-judgmental environment where families are supported and empowered to navigate what can often be a long and difficult journey ahead.
Having had the most esteemed privilege of working with families and children with special needs since 1998, I feel I have had the briefest glimpse of life and every day struggles through the eyes of these special individuals. My ethos, quite simply, 'why work in a main stream School when these children's needs are greater'?
Imagine my delight when I found out that an old friend has a close link with First Step and I looked after her children when I worked at a Nursery, during my first few years in Childcare. Thanks must also go to the lady who introduced me to First Step - you know who you are.
If your life has or hasn't been touched by a child with special needs, please find it in your heart to donate to this invaluable charity, one which provides support to families of babies and young children with special needs and/or disabilities.
26.2 miles is a long way, I have done it before and I will do it again. For those families and those children - please help me, to spur me on, in order to support them. Thank you.
